Activated Charcoal

Activated Charcoal is pure carbon. It’s made from materials such as bamboo, coconut husk, peat, wood or other carbon sources. It is be produced by high temperature steam activation and by chemical activation. The activated charcoal we use is sourced from coconuts by steam activation.

Activated charcoal is reputed to have many benefits. In skin care it adsorbs (attracts and holds) oils, toxins and impurities leaving it deeply clean and refreshed without feeling stripped or dry.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a cactus plant that belongs to the Liliaceae family. It grows in dry climates such as those found in parts of Africa and India and has been used medicinally for centuries.

Its uses have become targeted and medicinal, and it’s one of the leading therapies for sunburn. It is also said to be useful in treating wounds and burns, minor skin infections, cysts, diabetes, and elevated blood lipids in humans, and shows some promise in treating other more serious and persistent conditions.

It is reputed that aloe vera has several properties which are effective in treating a variety of skin conditions, from treating sunburn, acting as a moisturiser, treating acne, fighting aging, reducing the visibility of stretch marks, and many more.

Colourants

We use both natural and synthetic colourants in our products. Natural colourants come in the form of clays and botanical ingredients such as madder root and alkanet root, amongst others. Other colourants that we use are micas and pigments, which are approved skin safe by the FDA and comply with Australian regulations, which regard soap as a cosmetic product (this means the colourants used should be of a cosmetic standard). Each product has the colourant clearly labelled.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are natural oils that contain the “essence” of a plant. They are the liquid or resin that is distilled, pressed or extracted from different parts of the plant – leaves, flowers, bark, berries, root, needles, seeds, beans, peel, cones, wood, stalks etc. Essential oils are generally extracted by steam distillation. We only use 100% pure natural essential oils that conform to Australian Standards. The amount used in soaps and other products is determined by IFRA (International Fragance Association) to ensure they are skin safe.

Fragrance Oils

A fragrance oil is a mix of various chemical components, some natural (from plants) and some synthetic. They are created in a lab and are carefully formulated and blended to the exact specifications of a perfumer whose goal is to design a scent. The ingredients used to make fragrance oils are all tested to ensure they are skin safe and have specific usage rates determined by IFRA (International Fragrance Association). All fragrance oils we use are phthalate free.
